We are lucky enough to have a local techniquest science discovery centre near us and they do a series of toddler days throughout the year. I wasn’t sure about taking the Bear as I was worried that it may be a little old for her and she’d get bored, but thought we’d give it a go seeing as we had a free day today and I’m so glad we did.
We made it just in time to join a little group going in for a story (room on the broom no less) and she was captivated from the start and spent the next 3 hours exploring the centre which is basically made up of little stations which kids can explore and learn through activities.
Although older kids may go through the science stations quicker, for the Bear it was perfect as she spent time exploring each and every one and then gravitated back towards her favourites. Obviously the theory behind the science was beyond her but you could see she loved exploring and the hands on nature of the centre meant that it was so much fun for her.
I loved that the day was dedicated for toddlers as for someone like the Bear who is on the shy side, having too many older kids there would have intimidated her, but as it was for children from around 2 – 4 it meant she was happy to run around on her own once she’d adjusted to the new environment. This made such a difference to her enjoying the day and is definitely one we will be exploring again!
