Our little grumpybum was gratefully replaced with a happy child today and after a lovely relaxed morning (where we only had to watch “the cats” twice) we’ve had a lovely afternoon at our local primary school summer fete.
Hubby had to work this morning and has a tattoo sitting this afternoon so the bear and I were solo so we decided to meet up with one of the other mummy’s who lives close to us. It started with a really sweet parade through the village of what I assume to be all the primary school kids in fancy dress finishing at the school where there were stalls, a bouncy castle, a bbq, face painting etc. What else do you need for a summer fete eh??
This is the school the bear (and the bean for that matter) will be going to once they are old enough, so I saw it as an opportunity not only for a few hours out in the sunshine but to also do a little snooping of what the school is like. I have to say based on the little I saw I’m impressed. The school itself had a lovely welcoming feel to it and the grounds where enormous considering the school is not the biggest. Plus if the kids who were there this afternoon are any indication of the students, then they were lovely, well behaved, polite and were very careful without being told when the bear was near them. So cute!!
This has been one of my favourite things about moving from a city into a more rural environment as there is always something going on at the weekend during the summer: village / school fetes, parades etc and everyone is so nice and welcoming it has such a lovely community feel to it that you just don’t get in a city. I went this morning thinking I know one person in the entire village but in reality I saw at least 5 other people I knew in passing; all of who stopped to say hello and chat for a little while. It made me really want to make more of an effort to get involved in community activities – something else for the to do list when I find the time!
We did had to cut our visit short though as madam was getting extremely tired so we headed home to a(nother!) showing of “the cats” which she promptly fell asleep to 10 minutes in. I have to admit this will give me a not unwelcome hour or so to myself as she snoozes….fingers crossed she wakes up in a better mood than she did yesterday!
