At 38 weeks it’s time to start considering the practicalities and one of the things I didn’t really consider last time was breastfeeding friendly clothes until they were needed. Maternity clothing does always translate and do the job therefore this time when I looking over what I had left from the bear, it was clear I needed to replenish my basics as all I have is a few black vests leftover. I hit the usual places; Mothercare, H&M etc but wow…..how expensive?!
Therefore I found this great little hack on Pinterest:
All that’s needed are some cheap vests (mine were on offer for £1.80 each from Primark), a pair of scissors and a needle and some thread and hey presto, I now have 7 breastfeeding vest. All you literally need to do is cut off the strap where it meets the back of the top, trim the strap to a shorter length (I did this to around 5cm each time), fold over into a loop and sew to secure at the front ready to hook over your bra.
Granted as you will see bra straps you can’t really wear these on their own unless you either (1) colour match your underwear or (2) just don’t care – entirely plausible when faced with a hungry baby on a hot day, but they are perfect for popping on under an oversized cardigan and scarf and paired with jeans or similar….the absolute epitome of basics.
The best bit? This was all for less than £15 for all 7 in a variety of colours which is the cheapest option I could find for 2 ‘official’ breastfeeding vests in just black and white.
