I’m a little bit late this week as to be honest I just needed to have a think about the General Election and what this means. Am I surprised it’s hung? Not at all, I think it’s a good representation of how divided this country is right now and to pretent otherwise is ridiculous. Going into this campaign I thought I would vote Conservative as a stable and stong option going into our Brexit negociations; I wanted a good deal for my children’s future. However, as time has gone on, I think May has not shown herself in a good light at all and their manifesto does not hold enough information as to what they actually plan to do and how. She called a GE tactically to gain a larger majority and have more power in Westminster and that has spectacularly backfired as she now leaves us in a weaker position moving into Brexit negociations. For that I think she should step down. Needless to say I did not vote Tory on Thursday.
For considering building a partnership with the DUP, I think she needs to take a strong look at the message she will be sending. She will be telling me as a constituant member that this is all about power at any cost. That includes sharing a stage – and therefore endorsing – policies that are regressive at best and downright homophobic and misogynistic in practice. Pairing with a party that is stuck in the Victorian Era of white male dominance and making goodness know what deal for their support means that have lost what little respect I had left for them. These kinds policies and beliefs are what we should be fighting back against in the UK, not pairing with. Added to the fact that although the conflict in Northern Ireland is behind them, I do not think they are ready for the DUP to have such a close relationship with parliment. An institution that under the peace deal committed to remaining neutral. I can’t help but think she’s moving forward with a power hungry mindset rather than thinking as to what message the sends to everyone, including the rest of Europe.
OK…..so that rant took a little longer to get out than planned….that was obviously bottled up somewhere! Other than that it’s been a good week! One filled full of family visits, woodland walks, playgroup fun, zoo adventures and lots and lots of cuddles! Here’s some of my favourite pics from the week.
I managed to finish reading Promised Lies by Marguerite Ashton which ended up being a really great read. If you like a good solid crime / cop thriller then I would definately recommend it. You can read my full review on it here. I’ve not started anything new yet this week as the time just seems to have run away with me but my ‘to read’ list is getting bigger!!
I’ve started watching Love Island and I have no idea why! I’ve never watched it before but for some reason I caught the first episode of this season and I’m hooked already!! It’s complete binge watch, trash TV but for some reason I am loving it. I think because I can completely switch off and enjoy the trash!!
Thanks to my daughters current obsession with Sing, I’ve discovered Scarlett Johansson’s music and I have to say I’m pretty impressed, the girl can sing! It’s a nice easy background music I can hum along to without being too distracted in the week which is a win win!
A promise to myself to start looking after myself a little better. To start eating well and generally treating myself a little kinder. I am so TIRED right now all of the time so I thinking a little TLC when it comes to my health and diet is long overdue.
We also had a little make your own fridge magnet afternoon – a great rainy day activity with kids of any age. More one that in the week though so watch out for the do it yourself post coming on Wednesday!
A fabulous charity shop haul. I do love a good bargain and I managed to pick up a few bits last weekend that I’m slowly working my way through including this white tee basics and these jazzy lounge pants…..so comfy!! I’m also still in flip flops as I refuse to give up on Summer!
I’m feeling more motivate with work again now. I’m self employed so it can be be difficult to juggle everything but I have a few more ideas of options which could be open to me. I’m also toying with the idea of getting a little part time admin job somewhere to help top up funds and stop the need to use my redundancy pay to draw a salary from. That being said, that’s what it’s for! To let me have 2017 off with the kids and try and set up as self employed…..something I can’t dedicate as much time to if I am working somewhere also. It’s such a catch 22 situation!! Therefore a lot of thinking to do and decision to make over the next month or so.
