As a result of my mummy fail last week of realising we still haven’t applied for Henry’s passport despite flying in less than 3 weeks, yesterday was a fun filled day out at Liverpool passport office. That was as you’d expect; boring and over pretty quickly. However, we did manage to find an absolute treasure of an independent coffee shop on our adventures called Panna Liverpool.
My appointment was at 1:30 so after dragging my parents along for the day to watch the kids while I did the official bits, we decided to go in early to grab some lunch. Pickings were slim but we came across Panna Liverpool on Tithebarn Street. It was a nightmare to get down to with both a buggy and a pram but it looked pretty, there was a free table and it was close to the passport office. Win – win – win: so in we went.
As I rambled in with my parents and 2 kids under 3, most customers (mainly business and hipster types by looking at them) gave us that “please don’t sit near us” look. To be fair to the owners though, they didn’t even blink and eye so we settled in.
PANNA LIVERPOOL FOOD
The menu was limited but it sounded great, I went for a feta and spinach omelette, my dad went for the honey glazed ham and mature cheese omlette and my mum the Panna burger (which in all honesty if I wasn’t watching the waistline I’d have totally had, as it sounded – and then looked – amazing!!). Unfortunately there wasn’t much choice for a fussy toddler but they were ultra accommodating and did us some toast off menu.
They were extremely busy (we nabbed the last table just as someone else had left) so it took a little while to arrive but wow was it worth waiting for! Great portion sizes and cooked to perfection with great quality ingredients. The menu may be limited but it’s clear that they keep is small and simple to make sure that what they do, they do well. And wow, do they do it well. Delicious.
PANNA LIVERPOOL SERVICE
Yes it wasn’t quick as the food took about 35 minutes to arrive. You have to keep in mind though that we decended on them as last in a long line of lunchtime diners so I think this is as slow as the service would ever be here. All the way throughout though, the team were lovely and attentive.
I necked my amazing tasting coffee before running out to my appointment. Meanwhile my parents enjoyed theirs at a little slower pace while they waited for their food to arrive. By the time I got back, it seemed everyone was firm friends and Darcie had explored the coffee shop now the lunchtime trade had dissapeared. At this point the team had no issues completing my side of the order which arrived super quick and tasted great.
The final flourish of excellent customer service? Not only were we helped back up their rather steep stairs with our buggy and pram as we left, but Darcie was also allowed to pick an egg to keep from the Easter tree. This not only delighted her at the time, but now has pride of place on her bed.
For an establishment that is so obviously not set up to cater for children as part of their target audience, they could not have been more welcoming and accomadating. They could not have been more helpful and met all our requirements with ease. Thank you for that!
