Ok – I know that sounds bad but let’s be honest, times are hard and we all need to do a little more with a little less nowadays. Redundancy and my move to self-employment has been a shock to the old purse strings so I’ll be the first to admit that with 3 mum’s to buy for between us (4 if you count me!), we need to look for ways to make the pennies stretch a little further. Therefore when the guys from Pouch first got in contact to explain what their tool does, I was a little dubious at first but soon got very excited. Let me explain…..
Picture the scene – we’ve all been there I’m sure – you’re searching online for a product, you find what it is you want but before you click buy, you spend a little time doing a search for online discount codes. Free delievery, 10% off etc – every little helps right?! Well, what Pouch does is scrape the site you are on to let you know what discount codes are available and then allows you to click and unlock them ready to immediately use at the checkout.
Basically it’s a quicker and easier way to find out if you can save a little money before you click buy. Sounds too good to be true right?
I thought so too so I put it to the test in time for Mother’s Day next week…..first of all I needed to download the tool which was actually super quick – you simply follow this link which takes you to a page to choose between Chrome or Firefox – select your option and then choose to add the extension. It was done with two clicks and I was left with a new little icon to the right on my tool bar:
The next step? Shopping! Or at least browsing for inspiration in my case. I started with the traditional so first of all we have flowers: I took a look around a few of the big sites and came across Bloom and immediately I saw my little pouch icon showed a little ‘2’ letting me know there were 2 voucher codes available. When I take a closer look by clicking on the icon, I can see the detail of what they are.
So now I’m on a roll and am actually enjoying checking that little icon before committing to a purchase – this counts as fun to a thrifty mama! I’ve had a look around and found some options which could help spread the pennies a little further this Mothers Day so you are able to really treat the mummys in your life. Clockwise from top left we have:
(1) The White Company providing a whole host of goodies from candles to clothes: 1 voucher available (but it’s a good one with 20% off and free delivery!)
(2) Snapfish selling all manner of photographic goods – mugs, photobooks, even cushions: 12 vouchers available
(3) The Original Gift Company providing….well pretty much anything you can think of: 3 vouchers available
(4) Hamper Gifts providing all manner of scrummy goodies….even chocolate hampers: 2 vouchers available
And when all that’s done?? Pizza Hut currently has 10 vouchers available!
