5 sides of fun with the Hape Discovery Box

15th June 2018

Hape Discovery Box - blog header image

We’re all for a wooden toy at Tippytupps HQ and when they’re educational too, well we’re all for it. So, when the opportunity came up to review the Hape Discovery Box, we were keen to get involved.

THE HAPE DISCOVERY BOX

The Hape Discovery Box is a cube of fun, packed full of activities on every side. They include a wire bead maze, an abacus, a mirror, a colour wheel and a spinning wheel. Suitable from 2 years upwards, the box not only works to encourage little ones to use their imagination but also helps them work on their hand-eye coordination and then when a little older colour recognition and counting.

His favourite sides so far have definitely been the abacus and the colour wheel. Whereas he loves the colour and the fun, I love the fact that it is made with sustainable materials. Not only does it look fabulous, bright and fun but it also sturdy. Like it would take the weight of a little man trying to climb on it!

OUR VERDICT

Although the recommendation is from 2 years upwards, at 20 months Henry loved this so I don’t think you necessarily need to wait until the full 2 years. However, you need to keep in mind that there isn’t much weight to the box. This is good thing for toddlers who want to move it around, but it won’t take much weight of a baby trying to use it to pull themselves up with.

Therefore, I think the best age range for this will be for toddlers who are already mobile and can get themselves to their feet. Either that or you will just need to keep a close eye on them as they are playing.

Beautifully made with bright, bold colours, I think any child who likes colour will love the Discovery Box. The materials used makes for a traditional toy that gives them impression that it would last, making it a perfect choice for a gift.

The Hape Discovery Box has a recommended retail price of £32.49 but is currently available on Amazon for £18.99 (affiliate link – price correct as at June 2o18).

That looks like so much fun for them to play with, and a great way to start discovering touch, movement, etc. Plus, the price on the link you provided is a great deal!

  • My feed may be full of hearts and chocolates but there's no doubt that Papa Bear knows me so well! @alexcv8 FEET ❤️
  • This boy ❤️❤️❤️
After a false start at potty training in the new year, he suddenly took a proper interest at the weekend and told us he was going to be a "big boy".
.
Fast forward 5 days and he's not only not had an accident all week, but he's also woke up bone dry every morning AND ditched the dummy. The real test will be out over the weekend, but where has my baby gone?!
  • I love it when the post man brings book treats through the door!! The question is, what do I read first?
.
I really enjoyed keeping track of what I read last year so I thought I would bring that forward in to 2019. Rather than having individual book reviews, I thought I would simply look back on what I read in the past month and share my thoughts. .
Therefore, if you’re looking for some book inspiration, then I've been looking back on January over on the blog today. It's definitely been a bit of a mixed selection…..link in bio.
  • This girl ❤️❤️❤️
Funny and infuriating, loving and volatile. I wouldn't have it any other way.
.
We've had a fabulous birthday party at the ice cream farm today and stretched it out with a trip to Charlie's. If you live our way and have heard of Charlie's then you now know we're a lot lighter in the purse. I hope your Saturday has been a good one!
  • The snow has pretty much dissappeared here now but I can't resist sharing these beauties from my wander through our village on Wednesday. Moooo!!
  • As the country was covered in white today, our childcare was snowed in at home. That left us with an extra day at home and the dilemma of what do you actually do when the dreaded snow day arrives but there is actually work you really do need to do from home?! Is it really possible to work from home and look after small children?
.
That's exactly what I'm chatting a about over on the blog today (link in bio). So, what do you do?
.
Ps. How gorgeous are these two 😍😍😍
