Fun Ways to Relax with the Whole Family
This is a collaborative post, thank you for supporting the posts which make this blog possible.
One of the best ways to bond with your family is to simply spend time relaxing with them. When you are all relaxed, you will all rub together nicely without any arguments, which means the kids will let their guards down and be more likely to open up to you if they need to, and if not, well it will give them lots of great memories of hanging out with mum and dad.
That being the case, let’s take a look at some of the most fun ways to relax with the family right now:
Snuggle Down with a Movie or Two
What could be a more classic way to relax than a food movie? It’s time to stock up on popcorn, grab those snuggly blankets, find out where to watch Harry Potter movies, and spend a few hours exploring new worlds together while you are all comfortable on the couch underneath your favourite blanket.
Once the film’s done, you can all talk about it, whether you liked it and what you think it meant, and it will teach you a whole lot more about how your kids think and feel and they’ll feel more grown up knowing you actually value their opinion on such things. Bliss!
Get Your Bored Game On
Okay, so admittedly, this one could go either way because we’ve all had the experience of the Monopoly board being brutally overturned when someone lands on Mayfair only to be thrown out of the game but if you choose your board games wisely, it’s a really fun way to relax with the kids that does not involve screens.
Not only will you all have a good time together, but board games can teach your kids a wide range of important skills from logical thinking to teamwork, so while you have fun, you will also low-key be helping them to learn too.
The Great British Bake Off: Home Edition
Why not bring a bit of competitive cooking into your home with a family bake-off? Choose a simple recipe, or for the more daring, let everyone pick their own. The kitchen will be a mess, there will be flour everywhere, and someone will inevitably use salt instead of sugar, but that’s all part of the fun. Plus, you get to eat the results. It’s a win-win, really, unless you’re the one cleaning up.
Garden Glamping
If the weather is nice (and we’re always optimistic about that, right?) then a really nice ways to relax and spend time together as a family is to do a little garden glamping. Simply set up a tent in the back garden, get in lots of nice BBQ food and have fun sitting in the sun, telling campfire stories, grilling delicious food and…well you get the idea. It’s a good way to get some fresh air into them and have a bit more of a grown up time, while also ensuring the
kids have fun too. What’s not to love?
Family Disco
Yes, it might sound totally cringe, but there is no denying that a family disco can be a fun way to relax and bond. Let everyone add their favourite songs to a playlist, turn down the lights, and maybe set up a disco ball instead, and simply have fun dancing together. If you have one, then you could even set up a karaoke machine to make the day even more hilarious. You’ll find out a few things about what kind of music your kids love, and you can tell them more about the banda that meant a lot to you, so it’s a great bonding experience as well as being a fun way to append a few hours relaxing together at the weekend. You know you’ll love it!
The Art of Doing Nothing
Yes, you read that right. In a world obsessed with being perpetually busy, the radical act of doing sweet FA can be the most relaxing thing of all. Declare pyjama day, ban all talk of chores and homework, and just be. You can read, daydream, or simply enjoy each other’s company without the pressure to be constantly entertained. This is a great idea for those long Sundays where mum and dad really do just need to test and have a break before the chaos of a new week hits them fully in the face.
As you can see, having relaxing fun with the family does not have to be complicated or expensive, so what will you do this weekend?
