Why is Reading so Important for Children?
This is a collaborative post. Thank you for supporting the posts which make this blog possible.
While it may feel like a chore for some children, picking up a book is incredibly important for a child’s skills in school, their development of their creativity and a range of life lessons spoken about in stories. They’re also very fun for children to pick up! And they can discover their own favourite characters from these stories.
To show how important it is to involve reading in your child’s days, here are some crucial reasons from this prep school in Lincolnshire.

It teaches children English Language skills
Being able to write essays, form arguments and have individual points of view is a big part of a child’s studying path. When your child is much older, a lot of exams will ask them to write big essay pieces on particular arguments or analyses, which will test their skills in reading and writing. Having a book to read every night, even from a young age, can help with that, and it’ll give them the confidence to write longer pieces for themselves in the future.
It sparks a child’s creativity
The many stories your child will be exploring fictional characters, stories, worlds and relationships. Your child will feel very inspired to work on their own creative skills as a result – they may not directly relate to a character’s struggle or path, but they can learn to fall in love with these characters and use them to build their own level of creativity. It can motivate your child to write their own pieces in a creative way as well.
Improves a child’s vocabulary
Exploring different books right from the start of their reading journey up to adult age will explore a wide variety of new words and vocabulary they can add to their bank of words. These words they can learn to use in public, or when writing essays or their own pieces of work, and in general conversation as well. Your child will be able to expand their knowledge quickly as they absorb these stories and will improve their writing skills as a result.
