Toilet Roll Butterflies
Henry hasn’t been well this week. It looks like his back molars are starting to push through and are causing him trouble which means I’ve had a Velcro baby on my hands for the past few days. Darcie has been a superstar while he’s been poorly, which means that we’ve been trying to optimise his nap times together. This is where we came up with our toilet roll butterflies.
Something quick and easy for us to do together while the boy zzz’d for an hour or so.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Empty toilet roll holders
- Scissors to cut them down to size
- Pens and gems to decorate them with
- Pipe cleaners
- Double sided sticky tape
- A stick and string if you’d like to make them into a mobile like we did
WHAT WE DID
First off, press each toilet roll holder flat and colour with the felt pen as a base. Once done, cut each tube into quarters. Use the double sided sticky tape to place the quarters together in a butterfly wing shape. Fold the pipe cleaner in half and twist for the body of your butterfly. Secure the wings on either side using the double sided sticky tape. You may need to use normal sticky tape to secure in place.
Now, this is the fun bit. Let your little ones at the gems to add a little colour and zing to your butterfly. This was the Bear’s favourite part and she loved adding flowers to her butterfly – especially the pink ones.
There we have it, a little set of butterflies. We used a branch of our Easter tree to string them to and made our very own butterfly mobile which is now hanging with pride in our hallway.
