Crochet Poppy – FREE pattern
There are plenty of poppy patterns out in the internet but this is my favourite one that I have used for years. Used for decorations, post box toppers and displays over the years, theses poppies are quick, easy and look great.

What you need
- DK yarn in black, red and green
- 4mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
Crochet Poppy Pattern
For the poppy
Using the black yarn C4 and slip stitch into first stitch to form loop. You can substitute this for a magic loop if you prefer.
Round 1: C3 (1st tr), 11 tr into central loop, sl st info first st (12 stitches)
Switch to red yarn.
Round 2: 2dc into each stitch (24 stitches)
Round 3: ch1 (counts as first dc), 1x dc into same stitch, 2tr into next stitch, 2dtr into next 3 stitches, 2 tr into next stitch, 2dc into the next stitch. Repeat pattern of 2dc in first stitch, 2tr into the next stitch, 3dtr into the next stitch, 2tr into the next stitch 3 more times. sl st into the first stitch of the round to finish.
Cast off and sew in ends.

For leaf
Ch10
Round 1: ch1 and dc into the back of the second stitch from the hook. 1 dc in the back of every stick until the end
First side of the leaf: ch3 (counts as first tr) 2tr into same stitch, 1tr into next 3 stitches, htr into next 2 stitches, dc into next 3 stitches, sl st into last stitch.
ch1, sl st into first stitch on the other side of the leaf, 1dc into next 3 stitches, htr into next 2 stitches, 1tr into next 3 stitches, 3tr into last stitch. Sl st into the same stitch
Cast off and sew onto the back of the poppy.
