10 ways in which I am rocking motherhood
Kim from over at Oddhogg tagged me in the Rocking Motherhood tag last week. The basic idea is that you need to list 10 ways which you are rocking motherhood. Easy right? Wrong!! We’re so used to seeing what it is we could do better that it’s actually hard to focus on the things that we’re doing right, therefore this has actually been really hard to write but anyway, here’s my 10:
- It was that good I went back for seconds! – not just happy with the one child, I went back again to go for a second! Their closeness and how much they love each other already tells me that it was the right decision.
- We’re up, dressed and downstairs by 9am – sounds easy right? Not when there are three of you with three very different morning rountines and needs. I’m not ashamed to say that the reason we get dressed before even considering going downstairs is because if we didn’t we’d still be in pyjama’s at midday!
- I did my best to give them the ‘best start’ – I hate that term but I breastfed both kids; Darcie for just over 4 months and Henry for just over 5. That’s not the reason I’m rocking motherhood though; I also had the confidence and understanding my my childrens personal needs to know when it was time to move on from breast to bottle and then onto food.
- I changed my entire life for them…and it was worth it – people who say that having kids doesn’t change you are lying. They change EVERYHING! The thing is you don’t care so much.
- I swapped a corporate career to be more present – if you’re a regular reader you know that things are changing once again here at tippytupps HQ as I swap corporate life for that of a WAHM so that I can be around more for my children. It’ll be a shock financially but one thing having children has taught me is that money isn’t everything.
- We read – Darcie had a bedtime story from around 12 weeks old until recently when it made bedtime too exciting, which then turned into a meltdown when we wouldn’t read Goldilocks and the 3 Bears for the 5th time because it was time to go to sleep. I’m pleased that she’s inherited my love of books though and try my best to sit down with her at least once a day a read a few.
- They’re fed – sounds like a no brainer but with a very fussy toddler and a baby who is an eating machine, it’s not always easy to ensure everyone is full and happy when it comes to mealtimes. It often involves many options and singing (don’t ask!) but both my kids always have a good meal presented to them; I can’t always say the same for the adults in our family!
- I relinquish control over the TV – believe it or not we don’t actually watch much TV but it is always on. If the bear sat down and actually watched it then I would most likely limit it more but she doesn’t, instead she likes it on in the background as she plays and reads. You’d think that meant that she wouldn’t care what was on right? Nope! It just means she wants the same thing playing over and over and over and over again because she didn’t actually watch it the first 12 times.
- If they need me then I am there – whether it’s 9am or 3am, whether they’re in the next room or a drive away, and whether is means trying to sleep on a slither of bed allowed to me or spending the night awake holding my child as he sleeps on me then I do it. I’m their mummy so if I won’t then who will?
- I do my best – sometimes my best is not good enough but to err is human and what I do is dust myself off and do better the following day because they’re worth it.
And that’s it! A bit of a strange mix…..
I’m tagging the following bloggers and can’t wait to see their lists – Lucy from Real Mum Reviews, Sarah from Whimsical Mumbling, Laura from Mumma & Co and Lauren from Mummy is a Gadget Geek.
For everyone else we all need to be less critical of ourselves and celebrate the things we are doing right so let me know in the comments below one way in which you’re rocking parenthood right now – fur babies included!
