Sleep…..what’s that?! The Bedtime Tag
I was tagged by Siobhan over at the Babyboat Diaries to answer the following questions about our bedtime routine. Thanks for the tag, now over to me!!
Describe your usual bedtime routine.
With 2 kids now our evenings and bedtime routines have to be structured! As I’m still on maternity leave the kids are with me all day so when hubby comes home, he has time for a short catch up and cuddle before he then bundles them upstairs at 6pm for a bath and teeth. While he’s doing that I tidy the chaos downstairs and finish making dinner. We then (quickly) eat at around 6:30pm before one of us takes Henry upstairs for his bottle at 7pm. Whoever isn’t with him stays downstairs with Darcie while she chills out a little and has a cuddle before following at around 7:30.
This is where it gets hit and miss – usually she’s asleep by around 8/8:30 – no she still doesn’t self settle and I refuse to let her cry it out – but we’re usually both back downstairs at around 8:30 which is when our evening jobs start. Doing the dishes, folding laundry, getting bags and lunches ready for the following day…..(god my life is so rock n roll!) We’re usually done by 10pm which is when I try and get a little work done (as I am now!) before grabbing a quick shower and collapsing in bed anytime between 11pm and midnight. That’s usually when the fun starts as neither fully sleep through the night yet……zzzz
What are your favourite pyjamas?
A pair I bought for the hospital when I had Henry. They’re mickey mouse but soooooo comfortable. Yes, they are now huge on me but I love them so they’ll probably fall apart before I finally conceed and retire them!
What is your current bedtime reading?
The Martian by Andy Weir – I’ve not seen the film yet but I’ve heard good things.
What would I find on your bedside table?
Kids stuff! There’s a lamp along with Calpol, a few toys, the baby monitor and a random pair of socks (Darcie’s). I try and clear it off every day or two but it seems to attract an electic mix of random bits and bobs pretty quickly.
What scent makes you sleepy?
Fresh linen – I love that smell!
What is your usual bedtime and wakeup time?
As I said before, we’re in bed anytime between 11pm and midnight and then awake any time between 6am and 7am depending on when the little lady decides to come into our room with a ‘wake up mummy!’.
What are your top three bedtime products?
Urgh I’m so bad at this….I don’t have any really so it’ll just be toothpaste (sensodyne at the moment as hubby is allergic to everything else) along with simple moisturiser for after the shower and face wipes for if I have worn any make up….HUGE ‘if’ seeing as it’s only happened twice since Henry was born!
What is your most common sleeping position
On my side facing the monitor if by some miracle I’m still in my bed. Most common recently though is on my side facing Darcie as I’ve squeezed into her single bed with her.
Do you have anything you like to take to bed with you?
Just the hubby, though both of us spending the entire night in there together is a pretty rare occurance at the moment! My phone also comes to bed with me at night which I know isn’t great but it charges on the bedside table and is grabbed when Henry gets up in the night, as it can take up to an hour to settle him back down. Please note though that this comes with an Amazon one click purchase warning….that thing is dangerous at 3am!
What is your worst bedtime habit?
Going to bed with my hair wet as invariably I have only just gotten out of the shower. It can’t be doing my pillow any good! Also I guess the phone in bed isn’t great either!
I tag Sophie at Mama Mei and Kimberley over at OddHogg to complete the same questions! I look forward to reading the answers……
