We were recently contacted by Kidloland and asked to review their app which is designed for toddlers and pre-schoolers and covers a wide range of topics. Think nursery rhymes, stories and activities surrounding a whole host of topics such as animals, fruit and vegetables, vehicles, numbers, shapes the weather etc.
At first I will admit I was hesitant; the Bear is only 2 years old and we try and limit her screen time but to be honest she knows what the iPad is and one of her favourite things to do is navigate around YouTube and watch video after video of songs. Anyone else ended up in the position where they were singing Baby Shark for days? Well that’s us, so I knew this app would be something that she would love and I wasn’t wrong!
Initially the app was really quick and easy to download, available on iOS and Andriod we used the iOS version and installed it on the iPad which she’s allowed to use from time to time. The colours are bright and the music fun so you can see straight away this is attractive to toddlers and pre-schoolers. I would recommend going into the app yourself and downloading anything you think your children would like before handing it over to your little person as this can help speed up the process and navigate any short tempers that have no patience. Luckily though it doesn’t take long and we were quite quickly moving through the menu and seeing what was on offer.
The sections are split up into 20 different sections covering Nursery Rhymes, Stories, phonics, games, tracing, colouring etc which each section allowing you access to a huge number of songs, stories and activities. The Bears favourites so far are the nursery rhymes which she loves to sing along to – baa baa sheep, incy spider, wheels on the bus and twinkle twinkle are all firm favourites. The stories are a big hit too, particulary those about babies in the bedtime section of the app. She has also loved the colouring section as well as the games where she either needs to feed the monsters or brush their teeth. Extremely topical for us as a favourite movie of the moment is Monsters Inc and a particular challenge has been teeth brushing so I am pleased to say that this has helped a little.
The one big drawback we have – which to be fair is less to do with the app and more general iPad usage – is that she doesn’t want it to end. When it’s time to put it away it comes complete with a mini toddler tantrum (tears and all) because she just doesn’t want to stop therefore as parents, this is something we need to watch!
The app is provided on a subscription service and is initially free for a 7 day period, after that subscription options can vary from £3.99 for 1 month all the way up to £29.99 for 12 months. This seems like a lot of money for an app but the subscription gives your children access to literally over 1000 items in the menu and enough options to keep kids entertained for hours. There is also a free 7 day trial option which will give access to the entire app for 7 days.
Should you wish to subscribe, then you can download the app from the following locations:
I would actually really recommend the Kidloland app for parents who need to keep their children entertained from time to time – think wet rainy days!! We all would love to have imaginative and sensory play only, but the fact is that children are attracted to technology and it’s here to stay. Applications such as this one which are fun and attractive to children while still being educational and of benefit to their development I think are a good thing. Sit with them and work through the activities together and I guarentee they will not only enjoy the app but will love working through it with you.
I love that new content is added all the time and that there are no ads as it helps keep my toddler – who has zero patience – entertained without interruption!
