Our Sounds of Summer Powered by Yoto
AD | gifted – can you believe we are already on the last week of the summer holidays?! We are incredibly lucky that we have enjoyed a summer filled with adventures but that also means that we’ve had more time than usual spent in the car. Thankfully Yoto has our back, because ever since we got our Yoto Mini’s all the way back in November 2022, my children won’t travel without them.
I cannot express how many arguments this little box has saved us and we are always thrilled to grow our Yoto library. There is so much choice available though, that it can be difficult to choose. So, I thought I would share the cards which have been keeping us entertained this summer.
Wish: original songs
If you’re here then you most likely have kids. And if you have kids, then you most likely have seen Wish AT LEAST once, if not more (we’re definitely in the “more” camp). This card contained 12 gorgeous songs from the movie and we’ve loved singing along to each and every one.
- Recommended age: 0 – 12 years
- Running time:
Big Sky Mountain: The Forest Wolves
The Bear is current OBSESSED with wolves. I’ve no idea where it’s come from but its a phase that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon.
Filled with animals, drama and the great outdoors, it is everything that the Bear loves right now.
- Recommended age: 5 to 8 years
- Running time: 1h 52m
Charlotte’s Web
The Bear came across a copy of Charlotte’s Web at her grandma’s house and kindly liberated it, allowing it to take up a new home on her bookshelf. She devovered it in record time, so when I saw this classic pop up on the Yoto website, I knew that she would love it.
Read by Meryl Streep, I think I’ve enjoyed listening to this as much as the Bear has this summer. So much so that she’s had to come and get it back from me more than once!
- Recommended age: 8 – 12 years
- Running time: 4h 3m
The World of Rachel Bright & Jim Field
We are MASSIVE fans of the Rachel Bright & Jim Field books. Although technically for younger audiences, my two still LOVE them at 8 and 10 years old. Demanding that we add to our collection whenever we see a new story for sale, even at their age.
This collection of six stories includes: The Lion Inside, The Koala Who Could, The Squirrels Who Squabbled, The Way Home for Wolf, The Whale Who Wanted More and The Gecko and the Echo. The first three being three of our absolute favourites!
- Recommended age: 3 – 5 years
- Running time: 44m
Camp Dino
One for the Boy if you haven’t already guessed. If you’ve followed the blog for a while then you know that the Boy fell in love with dinosaurs at a very young age and while his interests have expanded a little more over the years, he still has a soft spot for dinos!
The fact that this story follows a boy named Bo (also the name of our cat) at a similar phase as him, really captured his imagination, making this a welcome addition to bedtime.
- Recommended age: 5 – 8 years
- Running time: 10h 57m
Starlight Express
I can’t lie, this one is ALL for me and I have had a great time listening along! I love a bit of musical theatre and this has been an absolute treat. The card includes a selection of 13 songs from the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical stage show.
The little introduction to each track may have been created with kids in mind, but I’ve really enjoyed rediscovering the story in this way too.
- Recommended age: 3 – 12 years
- Running time: 57m
So, that’s the Yoto picks that have been keeping us entertained this summer in between our adventures. Is there anything we have missed that you think we should be listening to?
DISCLOSURE: we were sent these items for the purposes of this post. However – as always – all thoughts and opinions are my own.
