We’ve been extremely fortunate that we have recently been asked to review a number of wooden toys and grow our collection. In this weeks Tried and Tested Tuesday I am taking you through one of those toys and am reviewing the Noahs Ark Playset by Hape.
Made from wood with a beautiful bold finish, the ark comes complete with 7 pairs of animals (crocodiles, giraffes, hippos, lions, zebras, elephants and birds) along with Moses and his wife. With a fold down doorway on one side, the other side is a shape sorter with holes that the animals can be posted through. The roof can be removed as another point of access into the ark and as it is set on wheels, it is also acts as a pull along toy.
There are a few features I absolutely loved about this product. First of all the colours: they are bright, bold and designed in a very attractive way that immediately catches the eye and certainly caught the imagination of my two year old. Secondly the little doorway: I don’t know where it comes from but Darcie seems to love doors at the moment. She loved lowering the little door and walking the animals in one by one. Finally the fact that it is mobile: the wheels and string means she can take the ark on a walk, something she took great delight in doing. This little ark has been on more laps around our garden than a Grand Prix and has had a full tour of the house.
My only criticism is that not all the animals have a little shape to fit through on the other side. However, this didn’t seem to bother the Bear who enjoyed either walking them in over the bridge or taking the lid off and letting them in through the top.
Darcie absolutely loves this toy. Not only does it involve animals, but she has enjoyed some imaginative play with it while also wheeling it around. Which she does….over and over! This would be perfect as a Christmas or birthday present for any child aged 12 months upwards as even Henry at 11 months old has enjoyed exploring the colours on each of the animals in the set. Bright, bold and well made, this is a toy that I expect will last through plenty of play from both my children.
